Seventh Sunday of Easter

Thoughts from Fr. Bill…….

Dear friends, as we celebrate the 7th Sunday of Easter the end
of the 50 day celebration of the Easter Season is coming to an
end. Next Sunday is the great feast of Pentecost, the birthday
of the church. If possible wear RED to church next weekend
as we celebrate the Holy Spirit!!

This weekend we honor our Mothers both living and
deceased as we celebrate Mother’s Day! In 1914, Congress
proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. A
mother provides life and nourishment. On this day we
remember all who are examples of a mother’s love.
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!

Monday is the Memorial of Our Lady of Fatima. In 1917, in
a tiny, rural town of Portugal, the Blessed Virgin Mary
appeared to three shepherd children on the 13th day of six
consecutive months, beginning May 13. During these apparitions,
the lady urged the children to pray the Rosary. Today
up to a million people gather to pray at this site. Our Lady of
Fatima, pray for us!

Tuesday is the Feast of Saint Matthias, who replaced Judas
Iscariot in the original 12 Apostles. He was selected as a
candidate by the 11 Apostles because he met the following 2
qualifications: (1) a disciple of Jesus from Jesus’ baptism to
his Ascension and (2) a witness to Jesus’ Resurrection. His
symbol in art is an axe, from the legend of his beheading.
As many of us are in the process of planting flowers and
vegetables in our yards and gardens, we pray for the intercession
of Saint Isidore, whose feast is Wednesday. He is the
patron saint of farmers, and it is fitting to remember him
during the agricultural season.

This week’s psalm response, The Lord is King, the most
high over all the earth, is to be prayed with joy and gratitude
for God’s goodness.

As DLA 2013 is coming to an end, I THANK YOU FOR
YOUR GENEROUS RESPONSE!!! GOD BLESS YOU
AND REWARD YOU FOR YOUR GOODNESS SHOWN
TO HOLY CROSS CHURCH.

LET’S GO PENS!
